What does bespoke really mean?

It really means starting with a blank piece of paper and an open mind.

It really means starting with a blank piece of paper and an open mind.

It means having the ability to listen, really listen, to what a customer is telling you about their needs. And often it’s about surprising ourselves with just what is possible!

More often than not it’s also about being able to listen and then give the right kind of advice and potentially save customers money. A particular choice of frame or door fitting can make a huge difference. As can changing a handle from one range to match with a particular door from another range (even if it’s never been done before). Bespoke also means being open to challenges we haven’t faced before, or trying something completely new (Orange and purple kitchen in a Victorian house anybody?).

Bespoke, in its purest sense, really means designing a kitchen that just perfectly fits your environment and not the other way around. Small changes here and there can turn something that looks great in a showroom, into something that ‘works’ well in real life.

Which is why, when you talk with our kitchen designers, you won’t get lots of head shaking and tutting when you try to describe your dream kitchen. That’s not to say you won’t get the odd raised eyebrow as you describe the vivid colour choice you’ve made, or the sweeping curve of the worktop you’d like, instead of the standard piece. We love a good challenge as much as the next company. Bespoke is really only about making sure you get exactly what you want and nothing less.
